Shut off the main water valve. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
Switch off the water heater. Use its breaker, or turn a gas heater's control to OFF.
Keep water away from electricity. Can't reach the panel dry? Stay out of that room.
Sewage coming up? Stop using all water. Don't flush or run taps.
Smell gas? Leave the house, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside.
